Coronavirus: Ask your MP to help drop the debt

As coronavirus continues to spread around the world, countries in the global south are being forced to choose between paying debts and saving lives.

The economic shock of the pandemic has been particularly severe for lower-income countries, with fears that half a billion people could be pushed into poverty.

More than 64 countries are already spending more on debt payments than healthcare, and the UN has warned the pandemic risks deepening other health emergencies like HIV/AIDS. There is an urgent need to stop millions of dollars leaving these countries in debt payments every day.

Can you write to your MP now and ask them to back the campaign to drop the debt?

We need MPs of all parties to put pressure on the UK government to back debt cancellation, and use its key role in the global financial system to force private lenders to join in.
