Liz Truss's government is tabling plans to give bankers more power to gamble on global food prices.

This kind of reckless financial speculation drives up the price of basic food items for ordinary people around the world. More than a decade ago we won measures to restrict this gambling, but now Liz Truss wants to remove them to help the City of London make more money. It's the worst possible move as the global cost of living crisis deepens.

The Financial Services and Markets Bill is in parliament this autumn.
