The new UK government is pressing ahead with joining the Pacific trade deal with 11 other countries. Before coming to power, Labour were vocal about the dangers of corporate courts in this agreement, but now they’ve gone quiet.
These secret tribunals enable corporations to sue governments for billions. Fossil fuel companies have been using them to challenge climate action around the world.
But it’s not too late to exclude corporate courts from the deal. The UK has already agreed to do so with Australia and New Zealand - now it needs to do so with the other nine countries.
Please tell the new business and trade secretary to drop corporate courts from this deal.
