The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty is a bold, game-changing idea that would create a global plan to phase out coal, oil and gas in a fast, fair and managed way.
We need the next UK government to get on board. And to do that we need MPs in the new parliament to champion the treaty and to push the government to back it.
As the general election approaches, now is the time to write to MP candidates standing in your constituency and call on them to back the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty.
Thirteen nations currently back the call for a treaty, as well as academics, civil society organisations, parliamentarians and citizens around the world who recognise the urgent need for a global effort to end the fossil fuel era.
Let’s make sure the UK is next. Email your general election candidates today.
- What the treaty would do:
- Make a global plan for ending new exploration and production of coal, oil and gas
- Provide a framework for international co-operation to phase out existing stockpiles and production of fossil fuels
- Accelerate a fair and equitable transition to a zero carbon world
Similar to other impactful international treaties that have helped manage the threats posed by nuclear weapons, landmines and ozone-depleting chemicals, a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty requires widespread global support.
