A global pandemic needs a global response

The UK government has committed £544 million towards researching a vaccine and treatments so far. But unless public health conditions are attached to publicly funded research, pharmaceutical giants can shut out anyone who can't afford their prices.

At the same time, lower-income countries are due to spend $40 billion on debt payments in 2020 alone, while countries like Mali have just 20 ventilators for a population of 19 million, and Haiti 64 ventilators for 11 million people.

We want to ensure vaccines and treatments are accessible for all, and we’re calling for the cancellation of debt to help countries in the global south deal with the crisis.
