Ask your MS to support the Fossil Fuel Treaty

Fossil fuel corporations are making billions from causing the climate crisis, with those who have done the least to cause it suffering the most. For years, Big Oil has been getting away with it. But the movement to stop them is growing.

Demands for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty are gaining traction around the world and across the UK. They have been spearheaded by climate-vulnerable countries, and Wales could be a leader in being the first global north government to support the call.

Support from Senedd members will be vital in making this happen. Can you write to your MS now and ask them to help get Wales behind the Fossil Fuel Treaty?

The climate crisis is escalating worldwide. Extraordinary droughts are killing millions in East Africa. Entire populations could be displaced when Pacific islands are submerged, potentially this century. And Welsh communities are threatened by rising sea levels, extreme weather and the impacts all this has on the economy.

The Fossil Fuel Treaty is a global exit plan that could force rich countries – like the UK – to fulfil their obligations to the global south, which faces the worst effects of climate breakdown but has done the least to cause it. It could provide a plan for dismantling the climate-wrecking business models of fossil fuel giants, helping the world to phase out fossil fuels fairly and at speed.

With 15 countries and over 120 cities signed up to support the treaty, it’s clear this is an idea whose time has come. If you support our campaign, you’ll be part of a growing global movement that’s demanding a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
