UK aid should be used to support a just response to the climate crisis, global inequality and the Covid-19 pandemic. In recent years, however, the British government has been using aid to fund unaffordable private hospitals, dirty fossil fuel projects and low-quality, for-profit private schools.
The abolition of the Department for International Development (DfID) will only accelerate this trend as the government attempts to limit transparency about how it is using development funds.
