Climate breakdown, inequality and the cost of living are all accelerating with devastating consequences.
We need to phase out the fossil fuels that are trashing the planet and driving up bills. But this can't happen without justice for workers who will be impacted by the energy transition.
The government has ambitious clean energy targets, but hasn’t promised enough money to support workers through the transition. Big oil’s CEOs and shareholders have made billions while energy workers have been helping to prop up the economy.
Big oil should be paying for the transition.
Can you write to Rachel Reeves and tell her she needs to make them pay for a just, fully funded transition to renewable energy?

What does justice for oil and gas workers look like?
Workers in the UK’s oil and gas industry have provided a bedrock to energy systems in the UK and globally, while the CEOs and shareholders of the companies they work for have made their millions. We cannot rely on fossil fuels to safely provide us and future generations with us energy any longer, but we also cannot allow workers to be left and high and dry by governments and the fossil fuel industry as we transition our energy systems. The government must commit to funding a just workers’ transition, including an ‘emergency funding package’ for North Sea oil and gas workers at the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review. This funding package should include:- £1.1 billion per year to develop permanent, local jobs in publicly-owned wind manufacturing.
- £440 million of further investment per year to upgrade ports as critical national infrastructure.
- £355 million per year to develop a dedicated training fund for offshore oil and gas workers.
