The Loss and Damage Fund agreed at the COP27 climate summit in Egypt last year was a breakthrough for the global climate justice movement.
Now, a small group of governments are meeting to discuss how the fund will work ahead of COP28 in December - and the UK is a key member.
Climate justice demands that the Loss and Damage Fund should be:
- Big enough to meet the scale of the crisis
- New money, not diverted from existing aid budgets
- Grants, not loans - the global south already faces a debt crisis
- Run equitably - not by the World Bank or other undemocratic bodies
Please email the UK government now to demand it backs a strong Loss and Damage Fund.
